After months of planning, we are finally leaving today! Six years ago we had the privilege and blessing of adopting our son Dominic from Rwanda. Back then, Dale and I made a promise that one of us would go back with each of our children in their 8th grade year to learn about Dominic's background, culture and to serve at the orphanage, in order to develop a small understanding of their hardships. We also really wanted them to take to heart that giving really is better than to receiving, whether it be their time, resources or money. Well Chloe, our oldest, is the first one to go. We are praying that this will impact her (and myself) in a profound and positive way. So blessed that she is excited and has a heart for this. Dale and I have also been really blessed that the other kids are right in there, wanting to participate by donating their "Christmas gift money"...so proud of them!
Its now hard to grasp, that we are making our dream and commitment, of what seems to be so long ago (6years to be exact), a reality...God is good! We have been so blessed by my generous co-workers, friends and people in our community by donations of pillowcases, cloth diapers, toothbrushes/toothpaste, school supplies, clothes, money.....and this list goes on....so much so, that we have reached a maximum of 200lbs!!! Our clothes for 2 wks are in our carry-on backpacks....I hope the zippers hold out and I hope customs doesn't ask me to open it or I'm sure it will explode (underwear & all...lol)!!! We will have to purchase whatever else that is needed in Rwanda.
So the next time we post will be in Kigali. Praying our plane leaves on time & that our luggage gets there. Thank you to all the great people in my life who have made this trip possible & a success!!! You know who you are. Wouldn't be able to do this without you...love you!
